How CarryCommute handles your information
Last updated: May 8, 2026
CarryCommute (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects reader privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when readers visit carrycommute.com or subscribe to our newsletter, how we use it, who else has access to it, and what rights readers have over their own data.
Information we collect
We collect two categories of information from visitors to carrycommute.com:
Information you give us directly. When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. When you contact us, we collect whatever information you choose to include in that message (name, email, message content). We do not require an account to read articles.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, we and our third-party service providers automatically collect technical and usage data. This includes your device type and operating system, browser type, IP address (which is typically used to derive approximate location at the city level), referring website, pages viewed on our site, time spent on each page, and unique cookie identifiers used by analytics and affiliate tracking services.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Send our newsletter to subscribers who opt in
- Respond to inquiries sent to our contact email
- Understand which articles readers find useful, so we can publish more of what works
- Detect and prevent abuse, spam, and security issues
- Track affiliate referrals so the relevant retailer can attribute purchases to us and pay commissions
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. We do, however, “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising and analytics within the meaning of California law. See the California Privacy Rights section below for opt-out details.
Affiliate programs and tracking
CarryCommute participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other affiliate programs and networks, including ShareASale, CJ Affiliate, Impact, Awin, and direct relationships with individual brands. As an Amazon Associate, CarryCommute earns from qualifying purchases.
When you click an affiliate link on our site, the destination retailer (Amazon or another merchant) may set cookies, pixels, or other tracking identifiers in your browser. These tracking technologies allow the retailer to recognize you as a referral from CarryCommute and, if you make a qualifying purchase within the program’s cookie window, to attribute that purchase to us so that we may receive a commission.
What information is shared. Affiliate cookies typically contain a unique identifier and our affiliate ID. They do not, on their own, contain your name or contact information. The destination retailer’s own privacy practices govern any further data they collect after you arrive on their site, and we do not control those practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any retailer you visit through our links, including the Amazon.com Privacy Notice.
For our complete affiliate disclosure, including which specific programs we participate in and how affiliate relationships affect (or do not affect) our editorial coverage, see our Affiliate Disclosure page.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies (pixels, web beacons, local storage) for the following purposes:
- Strictly necessary cookies are required for the site to function (page navigation, security, form submission). These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies help us understand how readers use the site. We use Google Analytics for this purpose.
- Affiliate tracking cookies are set by retailers and affiliate networks when readers click affiliate links, and allow purchase attribution.
For visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and California, we present a cookie consent banner before non-essential cookies (analytics, affiliate tracking) are set. You may reject these cookies through the banner or through your browser settings. If you reject affiliate-tracking cookies, affiliate links will still function, but the destination retailer will not be able to attribute purchases to CarryCommute.
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings preferences. Limiting cookies may affect site functionality.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services that may collect or process data about visitors to our site:
- Google Analytics for website traffic analysis
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit) for newsletter delivery and subscriber management
- Amazon Associates Program for affiliate link tracking
- ShareASale, CJ Affiliate, Impact, and Awin for additional affiliate network tracking
- Cloudflare for content delivery, performance, and security
Each of these services has its own privacy policy that governs how they handle data. We do not control their practices and recommend reviewing their policies directly.
California privacy rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act give you specific rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the sources, the purposes for which we use it, and who we share it with
- Right to delete personal information we have collected, with certain exceptions
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information
- Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
- Right to limit use and disclosure of sensitive personal information
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
Sale and sharing. We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. Use of analytics and affiliate-tracking cookies on our site may constitute “sharing” under California law because these technologies enable cross-context behavioral advertising. To opt out, use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in our footer, enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser, or email contact@carrycommute.com with your request. We honor verified GPC signals automatically.
How to submit a request. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@carrycommute.com with the specific right you are exercising. We will verify your identity before processing requests and respond within 45 days, with one possible 45-day extension if needed.
EU and UK rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation and UK Data Protection Act:
- Right of access to the personal data we hold about you
- Right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) under certain conditions
- Right to restrict processing in certain circumstances
- Right to data portability in a machine-readable format
- Right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, including direct marketing
- Right to withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
- Right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority
Lawful bases. We process personal data on the following bases: consent (newsletter subscription, non-essential cookies), legitimate interests (site analytics, security, fraud prevention), and legal obligations (tax records, responding to lawful requests).
International transfers. Some of our service providers (including Google, Cloudflare, and Kit) are based in the United States. Where we transfer EU or UK personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where applicable.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@carrycommute.com. We will respond within one month.
Data retention
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe, after which we retain a record of the unsubscribe to honor your preference. Analytics data is retained per the default Google Analytics retention period (currently 14 months for user-level data). Contact email correspondence is retained for up to two years unless legitimate business needs require longer retention.
Children’s privacy
CarryCommute is intended for adult readers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area and United Kingdom). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at contact@carrycommute.com and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is fully secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as our practices, services, or legal obligations evolve. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. For material changes, we will provide additional notice through a banner on the site or, where appropriate, by email.
